Eric: Seriously. A *Pun.*
(From Joe and Monkey! Click on the thumbnail for full sized broken recursion!)
Today is the end of a week of....
...well, of the same joke, over and over again.
It wasn't a terribly good joke, mind. It was a pun.
A pun.
And yet... I dug it.
Oh, on day one of it, I didn't. It was a pun. I mean, Jesus.
But day two rolled around, and I kind of blinked, because it seemed... different, somehow. It wasn't until I backed up a day and saw it was the same joke but with different art (the inverse, I suppose, of the static art style) that I kind of smirked.
Then the next day came, and I was into it. It was almost zen. The words didn't jar, but the were also disconnected from the scene. Joe did the most mundane activities. He did laundry. He gassed the car. He did the dishes. All while complaining that time was cyclical and he never got to have any fun.
Today it ended, and that's fine. We moved on. Like Joe and Monkey, it's now time for pizza.
But on the way... dude.
Even though it was a pun.

This is one of the reasons I am such a fan of Joe and Monkey.
If any other comic tried to do this, I'd worry about there not being a payoff at the end.
This, however, had a payoff, and a pun at that. Which makes me quite happy.

I've read the Joe and Monkey week. I still don't get the pun. See that's the thing with puns. They're much better spoken than read.
Which brings me to a biggest question. Why do we consider monkeys funny, so funny that they sometimes are an intrical part of comedy?

I did the same thing, not realizing it was a repeated joke and getting confused. I thought the payoff was really worth it, and I was amused.

Sorry to intrude here but I'm having communication problems.
Eric, did you get my email, or see my blog posts this week? Should I still be expecting something from you?

I'm ashamed. Looking back at the second comic in that arc, Monkey got the joke before I did.

I just bought the Joe and Monkey collected book from his site, and it's awesome. Love that Joe and Monkey.
In fact, i think it's the ONLY webcomic collection I've picked up so far.

On Monday I remember thinking how this joke was so lame, but I could already tell it would probably be repeated at least once, but I wasn't expecting it to go for the whole week (at first anyway).

I think I would have preferred it if there was some kind of actual punchline at the end. Instead Monkey pointed out that Joe had been repeating it, and the punchline was "Let's go for pizza."
I prefer some actual humour in my humour, you know?

You know, this reminds me of Abrams's old "what the hell are you guys talking about" joke, and I can't think why.

Got to agree with Mr. Hayward on this one.
