For a second I thought that said "To Asia."
It was the most confusing three seconds of 2006 so far.

And "Arisia" isn't confusing? I had to Google it to discover it was a scifi convention.

I had to cross check it with Lore Sjoberg's Blog. For a second I thought it was the same place he was vacationing, and Eric was off to stalk him.
But that's Arcata.

Only 8 words in a websnark entry? From Eric? OK, what universe did I wind up in... Well, three exclamation points, though...
Just so no one else has to google it, Arisia is a convention in the Boston area.

I'd love to be there, but I'm far away and cashpoor. If they weren't in the middle of an event I'd sent my characters... or at least the one who lives on the east coast.

It's nearby, but my cash is limited and sci-fi isn't my cup of tea. A shame, too, because I could literally run every single one of their video game-related panels single-handedly.
I'll just have to catch Eric on some other weekend he's in Boston.

I would be there but, ya know, I live halfway across the US.

That doesn't suprise me near as much as the fact that none of those eight words is "Dude".
Comment from: HydrogenGuy posted at January 13, 2006 4:45 PM
Some day I'm sure one of them will just post just the word "Dude." (or, possibly, "Dude!") and, worst of all, we'll probably know exactly what they mean.

I'm quite certain that the fellow is capable of brevity. Perhaps his girlfriend has been influential in this regard.
32: What would you do in the cases where two videogame panels were slated against one another?

I'm willing to bet he would likely split into two distinct versions of himself, each called 16_footsteps.

Hah! Doctor Setebos wins the internet!
Comment from: 32_footsteps posted at January 13, 2006 6:25 PM
Damn it, Sebetos beat me to it. Seriously, I had a bilocation joke all ready to go.
Ah well, I guess I'll wait until May to finally run a panel myself.

Well, just the post would be ok, because there'd still be the title to grant a little context. Now, if the post consisted of "Dude!" and was titled "Dude.", and we all understood it, then we'd know we've finally achieved telepathic unity. And then there'd be nothing for it but to open a Callahan's branch.

Have fun at the con and stuff!
And when you get back, you should totally check out this Batgirl thing that's going on. It's pretty awesome.

I'm reminded strongly of Moe Lane's take on how Ofanim of the Wind speak:

Eric posting an entry consisting only of the word "Dude" sans context and being understood will be the first sign that the Websnark community has achieved posthuman singularity.
Also, wasn't Arisia a Green Lantern? She was orange and stalked Hal Jordan I thought.

Ah, Batgirl. The interweb never ceases to amaze me with its ability to produces things that I completely don't get... but that everyone else seems to.
Comment from: Paul Gadzikowski posted at January 14, 2006 10:17 AM
Matt: You're thinking too much about the Batgirl thing. It's a harmless lemming cliff, enjoy it.
Comment from: Matt Buchwald posted at January 14, 2006 11:58 AM
Overthinking is my super power.
I really do think I'm looking for more meaning than a bunch of batgirl pictures. You're probably right.
Comment from: miyaa posted at January 14, 2006 12:00 PM
I'd wouldn't mind for some equal gender time. For every batgirl or supergirl character ideal, there oughta be a "Wonder boy" equivalent. (Younger, shy brother of Diana. Kept around by the Amazons because he acts so girlish.)

I saw you! But I didn't manage to make it to any of your panels. SADNESS!

Wonder Boy...
What is the secret of your power?
